BLKDOG

ABOUT SETTLING INTO THE ADULT WORLD

BLKDOG is a journey into the darkest rooms of the psyche. A deep dive into an inner battlefield and the hopelessness and fear a young person experiences before meeting adult life. Frightening and powerful, Botis Seva lets the audience suffer from his razor-sharp choreography and cruel dancers.

Botis Seva is the name on everyone's lips, a new name in British stardom. He blends hip-hop with contemporary dance with bold moves and a raw edge. Together with his company Far From the Norm, he has made a name for himself for his innovative choreography and many believe he is pioneering a new form of contemporary dance.

BLKDOG embodies the ultimate quest for acceptance, with dancers wearing (protective? concealing?) padded hoods, jerking around the stage with robotic timing and breathtaking precision. Spurred on by Torben Lars Sylvest's pounding music, they seem digitally manipulated, stuck in sudden stills or caught in a fast-forward effect.

BLKDOG is a thrilling work about despair - emotionally moving and with emotional movements, Far From the Norm impresses as they usher in a whole new era of dance.

SEVA VOUCHER

Born in South London and raised in East London, Botis Seva was introduced to dance through Tony Adigun and his company Avant Garde Dance. Seva started her dance career with the company and performed in several shows.

In 2009, Botis Seva founded his own dance company Far From The Norm. Together with the company, he experimented with hip hop while challenging conventions in dance theater. Since then, Seva has received numerous prizes and awards, commissioned work, performed to sold-out audiences, and worked as a guest choreographer with Scottish Dance Theatre and others.

In 2017, Botis Seva was elected as an artist in Aerowaves17, launching his international career.

ENG: Vital and gripping, BLKDOG is Botis Seva's haunting commentary on surviving adulthood as a childlike artist. A genre-defying blend of hip hop dance and free form antics, BLKDOG explores the inner battlefield of an ageing artist trying to retain his youth.

With music from long standing collaborator Torben Lars Sylvest and performed by Botis' powerhouse company Far From The Norm, BLKDOG searches for coping mechanisms in the ultimate hunt for acceptance.
