Vännäs is Storytelling Municipality of the Year 2024/25
VÄNNÄS IS STORY MUNICIPALITY OF THE YEAR 2024/25
On August 30 at 18.00, Vännäs - Storytelling Municipality of the Year 2024-2025 will be inaugurated. Vännäs is the thirteenth municipality in the order and the program for the opening day is - in addition to an official opening - a moderate and varied program on the agenda. Erik Enström, Head of Culture and Library in Vännäs, is looking forward to the upcoming initiative.
- We have recently been working on our place brand and in connection with that formulated what could be a description of Vännäs' mentality - steady forward momentum and a strong belief in the future. The fact that we are now the thirteenth municipality to enter the "Storytelling Municipality of the Year" project is completely in line with this. We want to come up with exciting and developing projects, but not without them also having a bearing and being able to live on after the end of the project. As for storytelling, we have many exciting stories to tell in Vännäs - rafting, the emergence of the railroad, alpine sports and much more. Perhaps a project like this can also help us to highlight new stories and new perspectives on a sometimes one-sided history?
- I look forward to both Vännäsbor and visitors gathering around memories, experiences and good stories. I think that we can all be strengthened by being better anchored in our own history and our historical context and create greater understanding of our different experiences, Erik continues.
About "Storytelling Municipality of the Year in Västerbotten" - local development through storytelling
The Storytelling Municipality of the Year in Västerbotten is organized by the Nordic Storytelling Centre, part of Västerbottensteatern, in partnership with Västerbotten Museum and in collaboration with the municipality that has been nominated and accepted the nomination.
This initiative recognizes municipalities that want to work with storytelling in a purposeful and committed way. The purpose of the award is to serve as an inspiration to all those who want to develop storytelling in their own hometown, increase the importance of storytelling and thus strengthen local development throughout Västerbotten.
The starting point is development based on a combination of local conditions and opportunities and the support and resources of regional cultural institutions.
