We are now looking for new fellows!
This year's theme: Truth and Dare!
Berättarkraft aims to encourage and develop oral storytelling in Västerbotten. Those who apply and are accepted will be involved in developing their own story on this year's theme. This is done through two different workshops, the first focusing on finding the story and the second on how to tell it. The goal is to find a story of about 10 minutes that is performed during the Berättarkraft finale on October 19 in connection with the Berättarfestivalen in Skellefteå.
TRUTH AND CONSISTENCY
Do you remember a time when you made a decision to tell the Truth with a capital S?
Or a time you chose to grit your teeth and keep quiet when you shouldn't have?
Maybe the truth came over you like a cold shower or like a warm blanket around your heart? Did the outcome really turn out to be what you were expecting or was it better? Worse?
When we were young, we played truth or dare. It was often more exciting to choose "konka"... Or maybe just less scary than daring to tell the truth and taking the consequences of it.
Today, truth is also a concept we have learned to constantly question. Fake news, AI-generated images, conspiracy theories, data breaches and identity theft are more the rule than the exception. Have you experienced any of it? Seen through or been fooled? Even tried to trick someone back?
In Storytelling 2024, we are looking for small and big memories on the theme of Truth and Dare.
We look forward to working with your story about friendship or work or house shopping or cooking or travel or new discoveries or... What do you want to tell?
This year's fellows will meet on three occasions:
August 24-25 - Workshop "Finding your story", Sara kulturhus in Skellefteå
September 14-15 - Workshop "How can I tell my story", Sara kulturhus in Skellefteå
October 19 - Final. Everyone gets to perform their story at the Storytelling Festival in Skellefteå
Participating in Storytelling Power is both fun and challenging. We guide and provide tools from idea to finished story. Together with the other fellows, you get to listen, tell and give feedback throughout the process.
We who lead the work are called Lillemor Skogheden and Theresa Eriksson and we work at Västerbottensteatern's department for oral storytelling, Nordic Storytelling Center.
For whom:
Registration is open to anyone who lives in Västerbotten and is at least 18 years old.
If you have previously participated in Berättarkraft, you are welcome to apply again, but we will prioritize new applicants.

Selection criteria
Each year, 6 to 8 fellows are selected. We attach great importance to the applicant's desire to tell stories and develop their oral storytelling, whether you are a beginner or have tried it before.
If you are accepted, you will participate in the entire process, develop your story and perform it in front of an audience on October 19, 2024 during the Storytelling Festival in Skellefteå. Participation in all workshops and finals is mandatory and free of charge for those who are part of Berättarkraft. Accommodation and food during courses are covered by the scholarship, but travel to and from Skellefteå must be arranged by the participant.
Berättarkraft is a collaboration between the Nordic Storytelling Center, a department of Västerbottensteatern, and Skellefteå Kraft.
