Proxy training

Learn and try your hand at organizing a storytelling café in your own village, community or association.

Organizing a storytelling café is a fun and easy way to inspire people to come together to share their own unique stories. The starting point is a venue, a few people to set up the café and someone to lead and share the word and create a safe and inspiring atmosphere - a wordsharer.

COURSE CONTENT
Short workshop on storytelling
What is a storytelling café?
What does it mean to be a wordsmith and how to prepare?
How do we create a safe atmosphere so that people dare to tell stories?
Which venues work well?
Should you use themes or not?
What to do if it gets quiet?

The course also includes trying your hand at running a storytelling café, with the support of the course leader and local organizer.

Course leader: Marianne Folkedotter, narrative antiquarian, Västerbotten Museum.

The training day is free of charge and we offer lunch and coffee.

"It was so much fun to hear about that fish, the storytelling pike, and then to meet with a common starting point in the craft itself. This and the organization around it became absolutely crucial for us when we were going to have our storytelling café."
Lligo Matson, Vindeln Storytelling Municipality of the Year, former course participant.

The training is part of the Storytelling Municipality of the Year in Västerbotten, which in 2021/22 is Storuman.
The Storytelling Municipality of the Year is organized by the Västerbotten Museum and the Nordic Storytelling Centre / Västerbotten Theatre in collaboration with Storuman Municipality and local associations and organizations.
