Samtal i Kvinnorum, en studiecirkel med Nordiskt Berättarcentrum som medarrangör

Storytelling room

In the fall of 2018, the Women's Room study circle was launched, a collaboration between the Nordic Storytelling Center, Museum Anna Nordlander (MAN) and Sensus.

In the Women's Room, the participants, with origins from Afghanistan and Sweden, among others, met and discussed important issues. The focus was on creating creative meetings between the participants and the working method was based on various cultural forms of expression such as theater, art, creation, oral storytelling and drama. Based on this, we worked primarily with what it is like to be a woman in the world today.

We have received an incredibly positive response from all participants who say that this project has really strengthened them as people. To be able to talk about themselves, to be listened to, to be able to create creatively together, to feel the respect that arises between women when we meet in our "women's room", to see the differences in each other but above all to be struck by the similarities that unite us. It has been extremely rewarding to see how the working method with e.g. drama and creation opens up for meetings across language barriers and we hope that more people will be inspired by our project.

With the support of the successful experiment, we then went on to invite Swedish and Afghan men to more exciting meetings and conversations together with the women in the fall of 2019 for a new round of the study circle, which was now called Berättarrum.

We are currently working with MAN and Sensus to organize another series of talks entitled Storytelling Rooms in spring 2020.

The study circles have been carried out with the support of the Västerbotten County Administrative Board.

ENG: Berättarrum (Room For Stories) is a project which brings men and women from Afghanistan and Sweden together to share their stories.
