People and Culture - HOME OF THE WESTERN BOTTENSTEATER

Västerbottensteatern broadcasts live at Folk & Kultur 2021.
Friday 12/2 at 12:10-13:10 - At home with Västerbottensteatern, program number 3828

Västerbottensteatern invites you to talk, discuss and broaden your perspectives on leadership, and theater as a meeting place, and shows examples of how the performing arts can be a key to in-depth conversations between people and have a contributing effect on a municipality's development.

Part 1: How a theater works and the need for close cooperation between the CEO and
the chair of the board

For anyone interested in the mechanisms behind the finished performances and the relationship between the theater and its board
10 minutes lecture + 5 minutes questions
Speakers: Fransesca Quartey, CEO of Västerbottensteatern and Martin Hedqvist
Chairman of the Board of Västerbottensteatern

Part 2: Moving a theater business from one building to another

Hear about Västerbottensteaterns journey into SARA Kulturhus, northern Europe's tallest wooden building. Take part in the story of Skellefteå's new cultural center, named after the Västerbotten author Sara Lidman, which will be completed in the autumn of 2021. What will the new house mean for the continued development of Västerbottensteater and Skellefteå municipality?
5 minutes lecture + 5 minutes questions
Lecturers: Fransesca Quartey, CEO of Västerbottensteatern and Bobo Lundén, Artistic Director

Part 3: Talking to young people with theater as a tool

Since its inception in 2000, Västerbottensteatern's youth department UngHästen has worked for and with young people on topics of concern. One of these topics is suicide, the most common cause of death among 15-24 year olds today. The award-winning work of the Young Horse has recently been documented in a handbook: Safe classrooms - creative methods for good conversations. The book describes the Young Horse's methodology where, through creativity, value exercises, theater and play, a unique "talking method" has been created with the classroom as a stage.
10 minutes lecture + 5 minutes questions
Lecturers: Malin Lundqvist, Head of Department and David Åkerlund, actor

Part 4. Every story is worth hearing!

The Nordic Storytelling Center is Västerbottensteatern's storytelling department, but also a resource center for the development of the art of storytelling throughout the Nordic arena. The department's areas of activity include oral storytelling as an art form, as a pedagogical learning method and as a tool for social engagement. Through the use of storytelling, the department has built bridges between old and new Swedes and also taught creative ways to support children's
language development. Now they are building an international platform in the form of a Nordic-Baltic network to strengthen storytelling.
