The Choreography

KOREOGRAFIN is an interactive performance that relies entirely on audience participation. By following instructions through headphones, the audience creates KOREOGRAFIN together. With imaginary hamsters, confetti, and bold movements, the performance explores how the way we move can influence what we think and feel.

KOREOGRAFIN is available in 19 languages. Each person chooses for themselves which language they want to listen to. In other words, people who don’t speak a word of the same language can participate in the same performance and come together on equal terms. Since its premiere in 2016, KOREOGRAFIN has been performed over 700 times around the world. The performance was selected for Ice Hot and Young Swedstage 2022, as well as for Bibu 2018, with the following rationale:

“Here, we as the audience have the opportunity to switch roles. Instead of being observers, we become co-creators. With the choreographers guiding us through headphones, we are asked to participate using our own bodies as tools, in a safe space where we quickly realize that we can’t do anything wrong—instead, all our movements are right.”

We discover that our morning routines are actually choreographed sequences. We move together; we create shared worlds. It’s a performance or an experience, but it’s also a physical experience—an exploration of what movement is and what the body can express. This is interactive performing arts that brings us joy, inspires us, and allows everyone involved to be, for a brief moment, co-creators of something that feels big in the small.”

“What do I have to do to get to do this again? I’ll do anything!”
– 7th-grade student

“With the opening assurance that ‘everything will fall into place in the choreography,’ a solid foundation is laid—one necessary to dare to explore not only the inner conflicts and areas of tension, but also the infectious joy and sense of community that emerge during the act’s half-hour.”
– Sara Meidel, Västerbottenskuriren 2017

“A wonderful experience that brings people together across generational and linguistic boundaries. Incredibly moving.”
– Johanna Salander, Artistic Director of Västerbottensteatern
