The Seagull

Anton Chekhov’s *The Seagull* is a dark comedy about love, artistry, and the dream of a different life, in which the longing to be seen draws people ever closer together and yet pushes them ever further apart.

A group of artists and family members gather at a rural summer retreat. Young Kostya tries to win both his mother's recognition and Nina's heart—but fails on both fronts. At the same time, Nina is drawn to the successful writer Trigorin, with fateful consequences.

The Seagull is a captivating performance with poignant portraits of longing, unhappy love, and misunderstood ambitions. The story of people's longing to be seen, loved, and to create something meaningful is both timeless and deeply relevant.

Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull" is one of literature's most beloved and deeply moving plays. It premiered at the Alexandrinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg in 1896 and has since been staged countless times in theatres around the world.

Behind the production is the same artistic team that created the 2024 hit Jag for ner till bror (I Went Down to My Brother).

NOTE! It is NOT hay or straw on the stage, but rather bast that has been painted to look like it.

🪽 REVIEW OF *The Seagull* IN *Dagens Nyheter*! 🪽

“Arkadina (a delightful Tova Magnusson) is so dazzled by herself that she falls apart at the slightest shadow cast upon her. Like a troll in the sun, but the other way around.”

“Julia Marko-Nord, who directed *I Went Down to My Brother* on this same stage a few years ago, has updated *The Seagull* for our times.”

“Johannes Kuhnke is at his best when he drags his feet. His character is a self-loathing vampire who sucks in testimonies from those around him and compulsively jots them down in his notebook. Frida Bagri is also convincing in the role of the depressed, lovesick Masja, while Alfred Tobiasson brings a refreshing energy to the role of the middle-school teacher she settles for.”

“Klara Hodell looks nervously explosive in her big white shirt.”
