The world premiere took place on November 17, 2021 in Sara Kulturhus and the performance will return in January 2023. We have created a grand musical theater festival and an epic about the Skellefteå region. Spectacular stage solutions, Västerbotten storytelling and a 13-person strong singing and musical ensemble.
When Nicanor Markström meets the agitator Elmblad at Burefjärden on an August day in 1903, he is 10 years old. The boy has never seen a Stockholm socialist in real life before and he does not know what "social å nanting", as it says on Elmblad's poster, is. Through Nicanor's efforts, the socialist receives a rude reception from the workers of Burebygden and leaves Västerbotten with the conviction that he will never return. But the meeting will be decisive for both of them.
Musikanternas uttåg is an epic of Skelleftebygden, by one of Västerbotten's great writers, PO Enquist. It revolves around the Markström family, whose head Josefina sternly guards cows, children, virtue and morality. The father, K.V., is nicknamed n'fliirmarkström because he smiles so violently during church services that the preachers break down. There is also the foster child Eva-Liisa, who, according to Josefina, is a carrier of the contagion of sin, and who becomes Nicanor's protégé and closest ally, and Uncle Aron - a man loved by the family but useless in society, who constantly makes mistakes and eventually loses his footing.
With his unique tone filled with humor, compassion and brutal honesty, PO Enquist depicts a handful of colorful human destinies and at the same time a crucial stage in Swedish history. The story takes place during a few crucial years in the early 1900s, when the sawmills are crowded along the northern Swedish coast and discontent with injustice and hardship is brewing. At this time, two of our great popular movements, the Christian revival and the social democratic labor movement, both of which were to be decisive for our development into a democracy, collide in Enquist's childhood. We follow how those who previously did not have a voice, collectively find their voice and raise it, how people realize that their work and lives have a value - and that this is worth defending. It will be a struggle filled with difficult decisions, sacrifices and setbacks, where in the end it turns out that there is always something better than death.
Västerbottensteatern's first premiere in Sara kulturhus was a grand musical theater party with spectacular stage solutions, Västerbotten storytelling and a 13-strong singing and musical ensemble. Now the show will return and play 13 performances in January 2023
Per-Olof (P.O) Enquist is one of the regions 3 literary giants. Musikanternas uttåg centers around the Markström family and tells the story of the tumultuous years at the beginning of the 21st century. Work is scarce, people are suffering, and tensions are on the rise. Yet when change is promised by a visiting political agitator, he is immediately dismissed by the locals for being a "southerner" from the capital. But what he has to say will have a lasting effect on the community.
Coming back on January 3, 2023 to Sara Cultural Center!
