Nanny

Nanny is waiting for a decision that will affect her entire future.

She has been locked up, against her will, because of a book she published that threatens to destroy the rest of her life. Her dream and life's work are in danger of being shattered - but she still has a chance of redemption.

Nanny Palmkvist was born on August 18, 1862 outside Svalöv. She trained as a primary school teacher, which became her profession for three decades, while in her spare time she wrote novels, political writings and humorous articles. She is involved in starting up a dozen associations and activities in Helsingborg, where she also runs the guest house and reading salon Tysta Marie.

The audience will follow Nanny's life, her struggle for women's and children's rights to education and to make their voices heard, and her work for the reformation of schools and society. Frida Bergh portrays Nanny's stubborn struggle to implement changes that would have been unthinkable for an ordinary peasant girl from the turn of the century. Towards the end of her life, she pays a high price for her uncompromising efforts. In the loneliest of moments, she must come to terms with herself about which path she will finally choose.

The actor and musical artist Frida Bergh is known from Kristina från Duvemåla, Nästan inget on SVT and from a number of roles at Uppsala Stadsteater, Riksteatern and Chinateatern.

Director and scriptwriter Annika Kofoed is a full-time actress at Helsingborg Stadsteater, but for the past 10 years she has directed large-scale productions, often with musical elements.

"Gee Nanny - your passion makes us listen"
"Frida Bergh takes on the role of Nanny Palmkvist. A clear-headed pioneer and rebel who does not let her passion for life be stifled in the fight for the rights of women, children and animals."
"Frida Bergh portrays Nanny with power and warmth, not least in the interspersed songs (to recorded music by P-O Nilsson) where the voice is musically strong. The fight song about sisterhood makes me think of "Jösses flickor" while the song about one of her legendary long bike rides from Helsingborg to Oslo humorously manifests freedom and independence." - Anna Ångström, SvD
