Performing arts technician sound
A whisper, the rumble of thunder, beautiful singing, or a raucous outcry? Sound takes many forms—and we’re looking for someone who wants to use their skills to create powerful performing arts experiences. Västerbottensteatern produces, presents, and develops performing arts throughout the county. Our goal is to create bold performing arts that move, enrich, and challenge. We are based at Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå, but we meet our audiences in many different places—from well-equipped stages to schools, community centers, and outdoor venues.
We are currently seeking a performing arts technician with expertise in sound for our production technical team. Apply by August 9, 2026.
About the role
In this role, you will work hands-on on the theater’s productions—from the initial concept presentation to the finished performance and tour. You will be involved throughout the entire process and help create technical solutions that support the artistic work.
Your responsibilities include:
Designing, programming, and operating sound systems for performances and events.
Working on rehearsals, performances, and tours.
Adapting sound solutions to different venues and conditions.
Providing technical support and sound management for workshops, meetings, lectures, and other events.
Be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of audio equipment. Participate in guest performances and external events.
Work closely with colleagues in technical and artistic teams. We work across technical disciplines—you will therefore also be involved in work related to lighting, video, and stage technology.
We are looking for you who have
Education in sound/performing arts technology or equivalent experience.
Experience with practical sound work in the performing arts, live production, or similar fields.
Proficiency with sound systems, mixing consoles, and PA systems.
Experience with relevant software (e.g., QLab or equivalent).
Strong IT skills and proficiency in Swedish and English.
Class B driver’s license.
Experience in theater or touring, as well as expertise in lighting, lighting console programming, or video/projection, is a plus. Experience working in various types of performance venues, as well as familiarity with technical maintenance and service.
We also view interest in developing expertise in related technical fields very positively.
As a person, you are
Self-motivated and responsible.
Flexible and solution-oriented.
Unpretentious and thrives in a smaller organization where everyone pitches in where needed.
Composed under pressure, even during live performances.
A team player who collaborates well with both technical and artistic colleagues.
Genuinely interested in the performing arts and the role of sound in storytelling.
