Västerbotten Theater – Skellefteå

Lighting that sets the mood, heightens emotions, and guides the audience’s gaze. We’re looking for someone who wants to use their expertise to create powerful performing arts experiences and become an integral part of our production technology team. Västerbottensteatern produces, presents, and develops performing arts throughout the county. Our goal is to create bold performing arts that move, enrich, and challenge. We are based at Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå, but we perform for audiences in many different venues—from well-equipped theaters to schools, community centers, and outdoor settings.

We are currently looking for a performing arts technician with expertise in lighting to join our production technical team.

About the role

In this role, you will work hands-on on the theater’s productions and projects, from the concept stage through to the finished performance and tour. You will be involved throughout the entire process and contribute technical solutions that support the artistic work. You will be responsible for planning, programming, rigging, and executing the lighting design for our productions. At the same time, you will contribute to the development of the theater’s technical operations and help create the best possible conditions for both the audience and the performers. Here, we work across technical disciplines. You will therefore also be involved in work related to sound, video, and other technical areas.

We are looking for you who have

• Education in lighting technology, performing arts technology, or equivalent experience
• experience with hands-on lighting production in the performing arts, events, live production, or similar fields
• Experience with programming, setting up, and operating lighting systems
• Proficiency with lighting consoles and lighting control systems, such as grandMA3 or equivalent
• a good understanding of LED fixtures, conventional fixtures, and lighting design
• ability to read, create, and work from blueprints and technical specifications
• knowledge of electrical safety and working with temporary electrical installations for stage use
• Strong computer skills and a good command of Swedish and English
• Class B driver's license for manual transmission

It is a plus if you also have

• experience in theater or other performing arts
• experience with touring operations
• expertise in audio, video, IT, or other stage technology
• experience in the maintenance and servicing of technical equipment
• Experience with design and visualization software for stage and lighting production
• Experience with QLab or other show control systems
• knowledge of network protocols such as sACN and Art-Net
• training for mobile work platforms, fall protection, or electrical certification

We also view with great enthusiasm any interest in developing skills in related technical fields and contributing to the theater’s overall technical expertise.

About the position

• Employment Type: Permanent position (full-time) or as agreed
• Work hours: Irregular, including evenings and weekends
• Location: Skellefteå, with touring activities
• Travel and touring are a natural part of the job, which means that a Class B driver's license for a manual transmission is required. Candidates who advance in the recruitment process will be asked to present a valid driver's license.
