PORTRAYING VIOLENCE - CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

In the performing arts, we want to tell stories that are difficult and disturbing. But doing so requires many conscious choices. How do we show the problems without recreating them? Can we talk about, problematize and portray violence with artistic freedom and with the goal of reducing violence? What is our responsibility?

In the panel we have three people who have all worked to problematize violence in the performing arts. Oskar Thunberg, director and actor currently with the performance What is violence?, David Väyrynen, author and actor in Det skjuts för lite, and Johanna Salander, artistic director and director at Västerbottensteatern who has long problematized violence and masculinity in the performing arts.
