The farmer and artist Karl-Bertil Stenmark (1912–1989) lived most of his life in Gummark. In the large country kitchen, he spent his evenings and nights carving wooden figures and painting pictures.

We’ll be focusing on Birger Vikström, the author from Jörnsbygden, during our fall book club meetings, starting during the storytelling festival.

During World War II, more than 1,100 Finnish refugees arrived in the Burträsk area. They were unaccompanied children, families, young women, and elderly people who had left their homes and sought safety across the border. 

The Bexelius family had roots in Norrbotten. Among other things, the father and son ran a dairy and were merchants, and they were deeply involved in the local community. Emma Lidström tells the story of an enterprising family during the period 1830–1940.
