Destination Funnen takes its cue from the incredible story of how Anna Mallika Wadström, who was adopted from India through a series of coincidences, was found by her family. In an unexpected part of the world! A monologue about being assigned an identity that is constantly being questioned. About carrying the burden of gratitude and the pressure to succeed; because who wants to be one of those “difficult” adoptees? Destination Funnen spans three continents. The production premiered at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Fri Scen in October 2025.
“Of course, I don’t remember anything from my time in India. But it’s as if, just because I don’t remember, those months never happened. As if what isn’t in my memory… doesn’t exist. But it does. I was there. I breathed, cried out, slept, ate…”
Anna Mallika Wadström has created a performance based on her personal experiences of growing up as an adoptee in Sweden and finding her place in an extended family. A DNA test proves life-changing, and an unexpected sense of belonging emerges. *Destination Funnen* is a story about reclaiming control over one’s own history after finally being found. A newly written monologue by and starring Anna Mallika Wadström, who plays all the roles herself on a wild, unexpected journey that ultimately leads home.
