Deliver

In *Förlösa*, the Bardo Ensemble invites the audience to philosophize and fantasize about birth in a playful way. When and how did we come to be? Does the soul exist, and if so, what is it?

Yvonne Rainer, a 90-year-old choreographer from San Francisco, and Audhumbla, the mythical cow from time immemorial, are lying in a maternity ward. A midwife appears and offers her assistance. Yvonne, a politically active lesbian who has given birth to new forms of dance but never to a child, and Audhumbla, who created the world’s first god by licking a stone, lie heavily pregnant in the same room, ready to give birth. But what is it that is about to be born?

John Cage composes the birth live.
