About the festival

The Storytelling Festival - for the 17th year!

Since its inception in 2009, the Storytelling Festival has meant a week filled with storytelling power and listening pleasure - throughout Skellefteå municipality. The fall of 2025 is no exception and together with local cultural actors, work is in full swing to plan the 17th edition.

Västerbottensteatern is the main organizer since 2018, but alongside us are about 50 local actors. Collaboration with them is crucial for the festival's survival and together we fill the week with about 150 program items. The festival reaches around 8-10,000 visitors and Västerbottensteatern has a special responsibility to present high quality storytelling - both through guest performances and our own productions/activities. Dhat is presented must also be topical from a social perspective and of concern to many.

In parallel with the program activities, we work long-term to develop and strengthen storytelling in the region. The festival also serves as a meeting place for the storytelling industry in the region, the country and the rest of Europe.

The 2025 Storytelling Festival will take place from October 13-19.
