What actually happened in Klemensnäs when the workers threw stones, the police fired their guns, and the women were considered the worst offenders in the demonstration?

The summer of 1932 was marked by a major labor dispute that escalated on July 5 in Klemensnäs, just outside Skellefteå. What led up to these events? What factors played a role in what happened? Who was involved?

Based on source material from the trial following the so-called Klemensnäs Riots, Maja Östlund, a museum docent at the Skellefteå Museum, has put together a lecture on the sequence of events, drawing on her master’s thesis. The story is placed in its historical context, uncertainties are clarified, and witness accounts are highlighted to provide a picture of Sweden in the 1930s.

The lecture will be held on two occasions:
