A newly written monologue play about doubt, love, and a maid who rose to royalty—a story that has never been told before.
When Vanja is faced with a big decision, her mind starts racing. “How am I supposed to know what I really want? Can I live with someone who always ends up using my toothbrush? Would I die for you?” She embarks on a desperate attempt to understand herself and asks herself, “What would Margareta have done?”
"Her Name Was Margareta!" is a one-woman show about Vanja’s grandfather’s mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margareta Eriksdotter, who lived around the turn of the 18th century.
Margareta worked as a maid on a farm in Berg—a small village outside Ullared—and when her husband, Per Svensson, was sent to prison, she had to run the farm all by herself. She took on all the work and finished building the barn that Per had started. But after a while, she decided to travel to Stockholm on her own to try to bring Per home.
Vanja is a freelance actress who trained at the Luleå Theater Academy. She is currently working at Profilteatern, but has previously performed at venues including Västerbottensteatern, Norrbottensteatern, and Helsingborg City Theater.
