Pictures tell the story

Nothing is the same, nothing is as it used to be, and I think that has always been said.

Roland Johansson works every day with Skellefteå Museum's photo collection, which today contains about 4.5 million photos and negatives. Many photos pass through his hands every day, and if a picture is worth a thousand words, there are more than four and a half billion stories about how the city and the country have changed since the middle of the 19th century until today. The museum also houses the archives of several of the city's portrait photographers from Franke to Newens - today's talk might just open the door to our local history.
