Author talk with Jan Gradvall

Entertainment and music journalist Jan Gradvall has been working since 1979, when he made his debut with his own fanzine Jörvars Gosskör. He has worked for several newspapers and was a member of the editorial staff of the music magazine Pop, which changed music journalism in Sweden. Nowadays, Jan writes columns about popular culture and music in the business newspaper Dagens Industri, and analyzes music and popular culture on Fridays in TV4. Jan has published about ten books together with others and in his own name. In October he will publish a new book, Vemod undercover: boken om ABBA.

In the preface to his book Nyponbuskar nyponbuskar hela vägen nyponbuskar, he describes the inherent power of storytelling. "If I collect my texts, I notice a common thread: always the same ideas, the same deep dives into culture, the same obsession with understanding others. By collecting my journalism, a kind of alternative autobiography emerges."

Per Strömbro, our local culture writer, talks to Jan about meetings, about writing linked to music and popular culture. The joy and agony of writing the first and the thousandth chronicle.

The event is supported by the Swedish Arts Council.
