This fall and in the spring of 2022, culture in Skellefteå municipality will have more space than usual. Skellefteå has been named Cultural Municipality of the Year in Västerbotten with the motivation: For choosing to invest in a cultural life with both breadth and excellence, where a unique wooden building, Sara Kulturhus, becomes an important part of an already rich cultural offering.
The investment that Skellefteå is making during its year as a cultural municipality will primarily support and highlight cultural life in the towns outside the city center. In this way, they want to take advantage of the power that culture can be to develop an entire municipality. Behind the award are the county's three major cultural companies, Norrlandsoperan, Västerbotten Museum and Västerbottensteatern. This is the fourth time that a cultural municipality has been named in Västerbotten.
The aim of the Cultural Municipality of the Year in Västerbotten is to get more people involved in the activities of the cultural companies and to join forces to make the culture that is created and offered to the county's inhabitants more attractive. The activities also aim to build good relations between the county's inhabitants, the municipality in question and the cultural companies.
