Place names tell us stories from unwritten times. In Västerbotten there are many places with unique and some seemingly inexplicable names.
Place names capture, preserve and tell posterity about conditions, events, thoughts, beliefs and how people lived their lives in a bygone era, a time from which we know little about people's everyday lives. Place names can be seen as compressed texts or peepholes into history.
