Rotterdam

A bittersweet love story about gender, sexuality and being far from home.

It's New Year's Eve in Rotterdam and Alice has finally mustered up the courage to email her parents and tell them she's gay. But before she can press 'send', her girlfriend Fiona reveals that he has always identified as a man, that he now wants to start living as a man, and change his name to Adrian.

As Adrian begins his gender reassignment surgery, Alice is forced to face a question she never thought she'd ask herself: Does this mean I'm straight? Or does it?

Rotterdam is a bittersweet love story about gender, sexuality and being far from home. The play touches and provokes new thoughts with its sensitive portrayal of young people's exploration of identity and relationships.

The play premiered in London in 2015 and then transferred to the West End to rave reviews. It was awarded Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre at the 2017 Olivier Awards. It has toured the UK and been performed in New York and Los Angeles and is now being staged for the first time in Sweden and the Nordic countries.

No Alice, I don't want to become a man, I just want to stop trying to be a woman.
Fiona, from Rotterdam
