Record Player Night at the City Library. Music journalist and entrepreneur L-P Anderson on “Doing the exact opposite of what you’ve been told to do”
When L-P Anderson was growing up, it often happened that, instead of going to school, he would sneak off to the playground and hide under the slide. There, he would listen to cassette tapes of rockabilly artists like Gene Vincent.
Both his teachers and his mother were only moderately impressed and foresaw a bleak future for him. Today, L-P is a respected music journalist who successfully runs Scandinavia’s largest record fair, the Solna Fair, as well as a nostalgia festival that attracts tens of thousands of visitors.
In addition to this, L-P runs a record label that specializes in unearthing artists who have been forgotten. The focus is on those who didn’t receive the attention they deserved during their most active years. Soul artist Jim Ford (California), reggae artist Zack I We (Jamaica), Rock Set (Piteå), and Squetters (Glommersträsk), along with many others, are just a few of the artists Anderson has brought to light. He shares stories from artists who haven’t followed the “standard mold,” plays vinyl records worth discovering, and offers book recommendations from the city library’s music section.
The performance consists of storytelling with elements of music and visuals.
