Chandala/Tattar

In the acclaimed performance Tschandala/Tattaren, Lindy Larsson, backed by the acclaimed Bon Bon Band, offers a personal theater concert based on his origins. He gives a voice to the travelers and makes visible a blind spot in our Swedish history that resonates into our present. The performance tackles large and complex questions about exclusion and abuse, but also about survival, healing and liberation. It is a musical manifestation, high voltage Romani music without a safety net and an urgent action to preserve an endangered minority, the Romani people. It is a revision of Swedish history and a punky reckoning with Strindberg and the short novel "Tschandala".

Tschandala/Tattaren is an award-winning performance that has been performed and acclaimed not only in Sweden but also internationally in Berlin, Vienna and most recently in Budapest. Actor, singer and traveling activist Lindy Larsson moves frequently between genres both in Sweden and internationally. Lindy is a member of the ensemble at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and has just played Jack in Änglagård at Oscarsteatern in Stockholm.

Lindy has received several awards for his work on stage and for the performance Tschandala/Tattaren he has been awarded: Teaterkritikernas pris 2022, Stockholms Stads Hederspris för teater 2023 and Katarina Taikon-priset 2023. Tschandala/Tattaren was selected for the Swedish Performing Arts Biennale 2023 in Stockholm. Tschandala/Tattaren is produced in collaboration with Strindbergs Intima Teater.
