During World War II, more than 1,100 Finnish refugees arrived in the Burträsk area. They were unaccompanied children, families, young women, and elderly people who had left their homes and sought safety across the border.
Some stayed behind, while others returned to Finland. But memories of that time still live on in the community.
Through stories, photographs, and archival material, Sandra Marklund, a museum educator at the Skellefteå Museum, highlights some of the people who came here and their life stories.
