Documentaries

Suggestive drama with Iranian star power.

In this newly written play, Amir Reza Koohestani invites us to follow a documentary about a newly married couple. An Iranian woman and a Swedish man, who do not speak each other's language, have met abroad. When a well-known documentary director, also Iranian, asks if she can make a documentary about their relationship, they agree. The couple, who had previously experienced their relationship and their cultural differences as something completely undramatic, suddenly begin to discover things that are jarring and disturbing.

The play explores, from the female perspective of an outsider, what it means to break away from an old world and be expected to adapt to a new one.

The lead role is played by Mahin Sadri, Mårten Andersson plays her husband, and the documentary filmmaker is Susan Taslimi. She is widely known to Iranian audiences as the actress who was banned from working in her home country after she defied and criticized the regime.

Koohestani broke through internationally with Dance on Glasses and in recent years has had great success with Woyzeck Interrupted at Deutsches Theater Berlin.
