Irrbloss - Musical narrative performance about Signe Aurell

FESTIVAL CLUB SATURDAY!

For three years Maja Heurling and Ola Sandström worked on setting Signe Aurell's poetry to music. And the story of the American immigrant Signe is completely different from that of Karl-Oskar and Kristina.

In 1913, Signe Aurell left Sweden to seek her fortune in the United States. She worked as a laundress and political writer, but she also became a civil rights activist and was a contemporary of the protest singer Joe Hill, who was convicted of murder in 1915.

Signe wrote poetry and published her metrically perfect and linguistically glowing poetry collection "Irrbloss" in Swedish in 1919. Her previously unknown poems are about homesickness and the struggle for a brighter future. 100 years later, they have now been given a musical setting where folk music meets song and where the tones lift every meaningful word.

It's surprising that Signe Aurell hasn't attracted more attention in Sweden, but now is the time. And the compositions are absolutely delightful. It is infinitely beautiful and at the same time both brittle and strong. Do not miss it!

The show is performed in Swedish.
