In the fall of 1944, Finnish women and children fled to northern Sweden. Some came by train while others walked with cattle all the way from Finland.
Fearing that German soldiers would burn down Finnish towns and villages, the Finnish government decided that the inhabitants of northern Finland should leave the country.
Based on Storsia, Asta Burvall at Skellefteå Museum tells the story of a refugee crisis from the past and the impact it had on the Skellefteå region.
