Since their debut album in 2015, Vasa's Flora and Fauna have taken a special place in the music scene. The Ostrobothnian trio of Mattias Björkas, Tina Kärkinen and Daniel Ventus has a distinctive sound and combines razor-sharp social observations with everyday recognition. Their audience is large and loyal and we are happy to finally present them at the Berättarfestivalen!
Their songs tell us something about the present and about history on both sides of the Gulf of Bothnia - about life now and then, and by extension also something about ourselves. Vasa's Flora and Fauna's world feels just like that: created in the pull between narrator and recipient, with a straightforwardness that feels unusual in the present.
The new studio album "Man blåser bort" has just been released and Mattias Björkas describes it as follows: "Many of us are disappointed in many things, and we deal with it in different ways. Some crawl back into their shell and stay there for the rest of their lives, others go on the attack against friends and acquaintances. You can sink into the worst kind of backwardness, or into substances. "One blows away" is the atmosphere of disappointment, the dawning collective suspicion that there will be nothing more. It takes place in a square that nowadays seems too big. The wind is directed from the highway straight into the square. There it is absorbed by three friends who sit there because they need each other in the middle of life."
